Medical technology constantly evolves in an effort to assist healthcare professionals find better ways of treating patients. Enhanced diagnostic solutions, many of which are tied directly to imaging, lead the way to improved patient services while relieving the often over-worked and stressed out radiology professionals.
According to a qualitative study on radiographers and radiation therapists, technology is an indispensable factor in healthcare, and training and supporting technology critical.
After analyzing feedback from respondents to their survey, researchers concluded that, “being involved in the implementation of new technology is of utmost importance and courses and training, facilitated by the managers of the departments, should play a major role. Only when a constant dialogue exists between healthcare professionals and their managers, in which they discuss their experiences, needs and expectations, can technology be implemented in a safe and effective manner. This, in turn, can positively influence quality of care.”
Adopting New Technology
Buy-in among all the key players is important if new technology is going to be of benefit. But before a solution can be implemented, there must be a clear understanding of what is needed and how it will work with legacy infrastructure that will remain in place. The driving component here is in the form of a question: “what will benefit the patients?”
Another question to ask is, “what will work to improve our workflow?” A hampered workflow does not help patients and can also lead to stressful work situations that many radiology professionals can already attest to.
The beacon of light in recent years is coming from vendors who offer cloud-based and hybrid technologies that make the cost of ownership minimal, but also take a lot of the administrative duties away from the healthcare provider. This gives providers more time and energy to focus on things that really matter, such as workplace efficiencies and improved patient care.
